The Pawnee City Indians won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Axtell, falling 56-28. Pawnee City was down 45-23 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite the loss, Pawnee City saw an underclassman step up: Ericca Gyhra scored five points. Gyhra is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight.
Pawnee City's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Axtell, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pawnee City is on the road again on Thursday and plays Palmyra at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. Pawnee City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Palmyra is ranked 126th). As for Axtell, they will head out on the road to take on Washington County on Friday. Axtell has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
