The Westside Wolves will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Alief Elsik Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Westside is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Monday, Westside strolled past Heights with points to spare, taking the game 58-41. Given Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while Heights is ranked 680th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Krysten Carter, who scored 11 points along with five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Garlynn Grant, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Alief Elsik's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their third straight loss. They took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alief Taylor.
Westside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Alief Elsik, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Westside was able to grind out a solid victory over Alief Elsik when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 38-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westside since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
