It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Bernards Mountaineers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 48-0 victory over Sussex County Tech. The win was just business as usual for Bernards, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Leading Bernards to victory were Connor Laverty and Logan Stevens. Laverty threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, while Stevens rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Jake Caldwell made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Despite the loss, Sussex County Tech still got an impressive performance from Cole Phillips, who rushed for 146 yards while picking up 8.1 yards per carry.
Bernards pushed their record up to 12-0 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.56 points. As for Sussex County Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Bernards will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakeland Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lakeland Regional is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. Sussex County Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
