The Caldwell Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to La Grange. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Caldwell in their matchups with La Grange: they've now lost three in a row.
Leading La Grange to victory were Nathan Scott and Reece Nygren. Scott dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Nygren scored 16 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Nygren scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Clayton Cooper, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Caldwell bumped their record down to 10-14 with that loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for La Grange, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caldwell is on the road again on Friday and play against Manor New Tech at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Manor New Tech is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for La Grange, they will head out on the road to face off against Austin Achieve at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Austin Achieve will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1453rd, while La Grange is ranked 677th).
