The Pearl River Rebels will head out on the road to challenge the Fisher Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Pearl River took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Springfield, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rebels came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs on Tuesday, sneaking past 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rebels have posted since March 19th.
Emersen Blanchard was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Braylyn Kelly, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Fisher sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over University Lab on Tuesday.
Gabby St Ann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Fisher's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Talyn Feicht, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Fisher now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Pearl River, their record is now 10-11.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pearl River has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Fisher struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pearl River was able to grind out a solid win over Fisher in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
