Baseball Game Preview: Stevenson Spartans vs. Belleville Tigers

The Stevenson Spartans will square off against the Belleville Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Stevenson sitting on five straight victories and Belleville on three.

While Stevenson's win against Garden City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 2-0 shutout on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since May 5, 2024.

Andrew Grzanowski made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Stevenson is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 10-12-1 otherwise. Grzanowski was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Grzanowski wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nate Patterson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Patterson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Meanwhile, Belleville got the win against Grosse Ile on Thursday by a conclusive 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Stevenson pushed their record up to 14-14-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Belleville, their win bumped their record up to 13-11-1.

Stevenson couldn't quite finish off Belleville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
