Basketball Recap: Ashe County Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Trent Sheets and Bryce Peters

Ashe County lost against North Surry back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Ashe County Huskies came up short against the North Surry Greyhounds, falling 80-54. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 439th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 197th).

Ashe County's loss came despite strong showings from Bryce Peters and Trent Sheets. Peters went 8 for 13 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds, while Sheets went 5 of 10 en route to 17 points. Sheets' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Graybeal, who posted five points and 12 boards.

Kam McKnight was his usual excellent self, going 13 of 23 on his way to 36 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds for North Surry. With that strong performance, McKnight is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game. Fisher Leftwich was another key player, going 6 for 8 en route to 13 points and five boards.

Ashe County now has a losing record at 5-6. As for North Surry, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Ashe County has already played their next contest, a 69-32 defeat against Alexander Central on the 9th. As for North Surry, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 78-36 victory against West Wilkes on the 9th.
