Crest and South Point are an even 5-5 against one another since August of 2017, but not for long. The Chargers will challenge the Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Crest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 31-14 win over East Lincoln. The victory was nothing new for the Chargers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Crest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jason Black, who rushed for 102 yards and two TDs on only 11 carries. Ely Hamrick also helped out as he racked up 112 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Point). They strolled past Monroe with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 61-42. The Red Raiders pushed the score to 54-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Redhawks cut but never quite recovered from.
Crest better focus on containing Kaveaun Pless and Patrick Blee as the pair were huge in South Point's win. Pless rushed for 220 yards and three scores while picking up 11.6 yards per carry, while Blee rushed for 111 yards and six touchdowns. Those 220 rushing yards gave Pless a new career-high.
South Point was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 410 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 215 rushing yards in eight consecutive games.
South Point didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Brody Crawford, Kham Crawford, and Cayden Rumph picked up one apiece. Rumph is on a roll when it comes to interceptions, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
South Point's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Crest, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 10-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Crest has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 310.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Crest against South Point in their previous matchup back in October, as the squad secured a 42-7 win. In that game, the Chargers amassed a halftime lead of 28-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
