Basketball Recap: Jay County Comes Up Short

Jay County lost against Northeastern back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Patriots fell 64-56 to the Knights. The game was a 29-29 toss-up at halftime, but the Patriots couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the defeat, Jay County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Karsyn Schwieterman dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Schwieterman's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Claudia Dirksen also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steals of the season.

Leading Northeastern to victory were Karri Gammon and Fiona Breitenbach. Gammon dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards, while Breitenbach posted ten points and five assists. Adysson Kircher was another key player, putting up 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Jay County's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Northeastern, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Jay County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-43 win against Fort Recovery on the 6th. As for Northeastern, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 79-37 victory against Centerville on the 5th.
