The Monarch Coyotes scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They walked away with an 82-71 win over Mountain Range. Winning may never get old, but Monarch sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Monarch got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Evan Trujillo out in front who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trujillo has scored all season. Tyler Carlson was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with four steals.
Despite the defeat, Mountain Range saw an underclassman step up: Preston Brunton scored 25 points. Brunton hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Quincy Helsel, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mountain Range were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monarch only posted two assists.
Monarch pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Mountain Range, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monarch will challenge Fort Collins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Collins has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 573 points over their last eight matchups. As for Mountain Range, they will head out on the road to take on Fairview at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Fairview is ranked 120th, while Mountain Range is ranked 105th).
