Basketball Recap: Brewbaker Tech Comes Up Short

After a string of four wins, Brewbaker Tech's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a blow against the Montgomery Catholic Knights, falling 56-28. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-50 back in December of 2024.

Brewbaker Tech's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kennedi Mcghee, who posted two points along with ten boards, five steals, and four blocks, and Heleyna Pennic, who put up nine points and six rebounds. Mcghee is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 31 games she's played dating back to last season. Heaven Keeton was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Brewbaker Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 26 consecutive matches.

Hannah Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Montgomery Catholic, going 11 of 19 on her way to 25 points and seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Montgomery Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Heaven Bailey, who had 11 points in addition to seven assists and five boards.

Brewbaker Tech's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-16. As for Montgomery Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-6.

Brewbaker Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Montgomery Catholic, they will square off against Tallassee at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.9 points per game this season.
