The Central City Bison waltzed into their game on Monday with five straight wins but they left with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Madison 51-23 at home. Given Central City's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Madison is ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Central City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Steinke out in front who scored ten points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Steinke has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Reagan Fousek, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Despite the loss, Madison saw an underclassman step up: Wedy Atanacio scored eight points.
Central City has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Madison, their loss was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-8.
Central City will take on David City at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Madison, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lyons-Decatur Northeast on January 23rd. Lyons-Decatur Northeast is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
