Rigby had lost five games straight , but after bumping their record up to 6-8 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-14 victory over the Blackfoot Broncos. The Trojans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Madison Jensen was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Samantha Bishop was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Rigby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
As for Blackfoot, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since April 1st.
On Blackfoot's side, Brianna Reynolds was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Reynolds a new career-low. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Sela Christiansen and Shea Staley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Christiansen went 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Staley went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Hepworth, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Looking ahead, Rigby will head out on the road to face off against Highland at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Blackfoot, they will be playing at home against Idaho Falls at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
