On Saturday, the Erie Tigers faced the Mead Mavericks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Erie fell 55-44 to Mead. Erie's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddie Hartel, who scored 12 points. Hartel scored a full 27.3% of Erie's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Juliet Slater, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Erie were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mead only pulled down three.
It was another big night for Darby Haley, who scored 22 points for Mead. That makes it two consecutive games in which Haley has scored at least 25% of Mead's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Kron, who scored 10 points along with 3 steals.
Erie has yet to win a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 4-1 record. As for Mead, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
