Fike is 9-1 against SouthWest Edgecombe since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Fike Demons just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. Fike is hoping to put an end to a 12-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Even though Fike has not done well against West Johnston recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Fike took down West Johnston 64-47. Fike's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Fike's success was spearheaded by the efforts of William Monk, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, and Dylan Skinner, who scored 21 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for Skinner. The team also got some help courtesy of Kameron Barbee, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to North Lenoir 42-37. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as SouthWest Edgecombe came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while North Lenoir is ranked 498th).
Despite the defeat, SouthWest Edgecombe had strong showings from Rodney Pettiway, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds, and Justin Bridgers, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Pettiway pulled down eight or more rebounds. Xander Brown was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Fike's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Fike came up short against SouthWest Edgecombe in their previous meeting last Tuesday, falling 71-62. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brown, who scored 25 points.
