Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Stillwater Warriors walked away with it. They put the hurt on Canajoharie/Fort Plain with a sharp 35-14 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for Stillwater, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Stillwater's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Mueller, who rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 20 yards and a touchdown. Lukas Lilac was another key contributor, rushing for 159 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Canajoharie/Fort Plain to a paltry 246 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Stillwater's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Mueller and his two sacks.
Canajoharie/Fort Plain's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cody Hyney , who threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Stillwater's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Canajoharie/Fort Plain, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Stillwater will face off against Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. One thing working in Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season. Canajoharie/Fort Plain does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
