On Saturday, the New Year welcomed McLaughlin with a 53-16 whooping from Moore Haven. McLaughlin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-10.
Moore Haven's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shakur Williams, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Williams set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Another player making a difference was Clarence Hunter, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for McLaughlin and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Moore Haven, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
McLaughlin will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Roosevelt Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 25th. As for Moore Haven, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marco Island Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
