Meyersdale had won five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 3-0 to make it six. They walked away with a 22-14 victory over the North Star Cougars. That's more bragging rights for the Red Raiders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Meyersdale to victory were Spencer Whitfield and Lance Jones. Whitfield rushed for 48 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Jones rushed for 34 yards. Whitfield didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles (1.5 for loss).

Meyersdale didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited North Star to a completion percentage of just 43.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Cooper Porter and Caleb Sines, who each logged one passes deflected. Meyersdale hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.28 or higher in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meyersdale's defense didn't let Kasey Yoder., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Whitfield, Trey Bolyard, and Gavin Kalp, who each picked up one sack apiece.

As for North Star, they now have a losing record of 1-2. They gained 109 more yards on the day, but it was Meyersdale that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, North Star still got an impressive performance from Yoder, who rushed for 108 yards, and also threw for 160 yards and one TD. Yoder showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 53 yards.

Meyersdale didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 24-23 loss against Windber on the 12th. As for North Star, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-7 win against Tussey Mountain on the 12th.
