On Monday, the Foothill Falcons faced the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Foothill came out on top against Sierra Vista by a score of 78-68. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Zak Abdalla was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with six assists and four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Shawn Salazar was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds.
Foothill's lineup was just a bit different on Monday as Christopher Natale jr got a bit more time on the court (28 vs. his season average of 13.25). Natale jr made the most of the opportunity, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Foothill is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Sierra Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Foothill won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Centennial at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. One thing working in Centennial's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. As for Sierra Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Bishop Gorman at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sierra Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 games -- so hopefully Bishop Gorman likes a good challenge.
