Cesar Chavez is 0-3 against Highland since March of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Cesar Chavez Champions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Highland Hawks at 3:45 p.m. Cesar Chavez will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Cesar Chavez turned things around against Thunderbird on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Titans.
Andrew Garcia made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Garcia wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zade Munoz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Ixtoc Aragon also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Highland faced Campo Verde in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Thursday. Highland was the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over Campo Verde. With that victory, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Highland got a big performance out of Brandon Willson, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Sparks, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.
The win got Cesar Chavez back to even at 4-4. As for Highland, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cesar Chavez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
