Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Escondido Charter's Fourth in Last Five Outings

St. Joseph Academy came into Tuesday's match looking for another win against Escondido Charter, but Max Mowrey wouldn't allow it. The Escondido Charter Tigers came out on top against the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders by a score of 70-59 on Tuesday thanks in part to Mowrey, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game.

Joe Scates was another key player, going 9 for 15 en route to 21 points and seven boards. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

St. Joseph Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Sutherlin, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 18 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. That's the most blocks Sutherlin has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justice Ahiafor, who went 6 for 13 en route to 15 points along with seven boards and seven steals.

Escondido Charter has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for St. Joseph Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escondido Charter will square off against Del Lago Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will take on Tri-City Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Joseph Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season.
