It was a good run, but the Hutchinson Salthawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 52-45 to Derby. While losing is never fun, Hutchinson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Derby is ranked 29th).
Leading Derby to victory were Jaden Wilson and Macayla Askew. Wilson scored 11 points along with five rebounds, while Askew scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Demel, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.
Hutchinson's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-6. As for Derby, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Hutchinson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-23 victory vs. Maize on the 9th. Derby has also already played their next matchup, a 70-32 win against Newton on the 9th.
