The Gainesville Christian Community Warriors had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Westwood Christian 40-38. The win was just what Gainesville Christian Community needed coming off of a 66-33 defeat in their prior contest.
Despite the loss, Westwood Christian saw an underclassman step up: Avery Thomas almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Eli Littleton, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Gainesville Christian Community's win bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Westwood Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gainesville Christian Community won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Eastside presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Warriors in Florida (the Rams are ranked 387th, while the Warriors are ranked 807th). As for Westwood Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hope Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 193 points over their last three matches.
