Aquinas is 10-0 against Onalaska since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Aquinas Blugolds will look to defend their home court against the Onalaska Hilltoppers at 7:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aquinas entered their tilt with Sparta with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Aquinas blew past Sparta 62-18 on the road on Friday. 62 seems to be a good number for Aquinas as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Aquinas' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Samantha Davis, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds, and Madeline Murphy, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Davis hasn't dropped below 15 points for 20 straight games. Another player making a difference was Ava Fernholz, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Onalaska entered their tilt with Sparta with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Onalaska simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Sparta 56-25 at home. Given Onalaska's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Sparta is ranked 308th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aquinas' victory was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Onalaska, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.
Aquinas didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Onalaska in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 60-55 win. Will Aquinas repeat their success, or does Onalaska have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
