The Willard Crimson Flashes entered their tilt with the Lucas Cubs with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Willard took down Lucas 72-55 on Saturday. Given Willard's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Lucas is ranked 372nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lucas' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aidan Culler, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Culler is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Porter, who scored 13 points.
Willard's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Lucas, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-4.
Willard will head out on the road to square off against Margaretta at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Margaretta will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Willard surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lucas, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clear Fork at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lucas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
