This season hasn't been kind to the Southern Wayne Saints, who are still winless after their sixth game. They were dealt a 47-16 loss at the hands of Goldsboro on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Southern Wayne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while Goldsboro is ranked 78th).
Despite the loss, Southern Wayne had strong showings from Nevaeh Hines-Bass, who scored six points, and Nygeria Thompson, who scored six points. Hines-Bass scored a full 37.5% of Southern Wayne's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Southern Wayne bumped their record down to 0-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.0 points per game. As for Goldsboro, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Southern Wayne will be home for the holidays to greet Eastern Wayne at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Eastern Wayne will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. Goldsboro will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thales Academy Apex at 1:20 p.m. on December 27th.
