The Brandeis Broncos entered their tilt with the Madison Mavericks with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Brandeis took down Madison 52-36 on Wednesday. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as Brandeis did.
Brandeis' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Finley Montoya, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trevor Short, who scored 11 points.
When it comes to explaining why Madison lost, one person who can't be blamed is Caden Cooper. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Evan Moreno was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Madison struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
The victory got Brandeis back to even at 13-13. As for Madison, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-11.
Brandeis will head out on the road to square off against Johnson at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Johnson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Brandeis likes a good challenge. As for Madison, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clark at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
