Southern Lab extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 7 this week by beating Glen Oaks, 44-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Kittens.
Kentwood made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,235 from 4,019. The advance stemmed from a 31-7 victory over St. John last week.
Archbishop Hannan's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Korey Zeigler threw for 90 and three touchdowns and Jason Brooks had 44 yards receiving. On the ground Michael Froeba chipped in 137 yards. Kyle Sewald helped Archbishop Hannan's passing attack out by catching two balls for 18 yards.
The Hawks' Zeigler and Brooks have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Zeigler has thrown for 382 yards this season, while Brooks, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 18 catches for 202 yards. Mt. Hermon's Brandon Lapharoahs leads the league in rushing yards with 463.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Archbishop Hannan takes on Southern Lab. The Hawks' offense has scored 163 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Nakia Mitchell's team has allowed only 126 on the year.
A big matchup in 1A District 7 this week will be when the Kittens take on Archbishop Hannan. As it stands, Southern Lab is in third, while the Hawks are in first.
Archbishop Hannan led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Pine Prairie. Zeigler ran for 97 yards in the win.
