Trey Schmidt threw for five touchdowns as
Goessel (Kan.) beat
St. John's Military (Salina, Kan.) 66-40 on Saturday.
The Bluebirds were up 28-14 at the half after taking the lead on a Schmidt touchdown pass to
Shane Goerzen in the second quarter.
Goessel expanded its lead to 24 points entering the fourth quarter. GHS scored five times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by Schmidt to
Zach Showalter.
Brigham Arnold was a force even in defeat, and rushed for five touchdowns for the Muleskinners.
Schmidt was the top performer for the Bluebirds. He ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which St. John's Military took, 64-18.
With the win Goessel extended its winning streak to four games.
In a Kansas Christian AA (8 Man) game next week St. John's Military (1-5) takes on St. Mary's Academy, and Goessel (4-2) will go up against Chase in a non-conference game.
