The Providence Pioneers are taking a road trip to challenge the Bishop Alemany Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Alemany took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Providence, who comes in off a win.
Providence took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Westridge with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Pioneers have won three games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Madelynn Watts made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Mia Allinson was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Delailah Lopez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Providence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westridge only posted an OBP of .059.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Bishop Alemany was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They fell just short of Glendora by a score of 3-2.
Bishop Alemany's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Providence, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Bishop Alemany's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Providence has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop Alemany, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Providence keep running through batters, or will the Warriors buck the trend?
Providence took their victory against Bishop Alemany when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
