The Whitman Vikings will take on the Blair Blazers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Whitman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Last Monday, Whitman beat Wootton 5-1. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Sam Clement looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Charlie Buckles was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Marcus Dober, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Blair didn't have quite enough to beat Churchill on Tuesday and fell 4-3.
Blair also got a good showing from William Brady, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Dylan Anderson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Blair is 3-1 when Anderson posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.
Whitman pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Blair, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.
Whitman took their victory against Blair in their previous matchup on April 1st by a conclusive 13-1 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blazers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
