Colquitt County took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 27-24 victory over the Benedictine Cadets. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Packers were the better team in the second half.
Colquitt County found their leader in sophomore Cohen Lawson, who rushed for 22 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 142 yards and one touchdown. Antwan Lockett did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards.
Benedictine lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Stephen Cannon, who threw for 130 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 34 yards. Stanley Smart Jr. was another key player, rushing for 83 yards and one touchdown.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Colquitt County will face off against Monroe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Benedictine, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Buford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
