The Olympia Spartans will face off against the Williamsville Bullets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Olympia has given up an average of 28.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Last Friday, Olympia came up short against Athens and fell 37-28. The loss was the Spartans' first of the season.
Despite their defeat, Olympia saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kaden Collins, who rushed for 88 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries, was perhaps the best of all. Collins' longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jimmy Lollar was another key rusher, rushing for 143 yards and two TDs.
Olympia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ty Olson and Brody Hish.
Meanwhile, Williamsville put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Pittsfield 64-26. With the Bullets ahead 57-20 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Williamsville's win came from a few key players Olympia will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jackson Sanders, who threw for 276 yards and five touchdowns on perfect 17-for-17 passing, and also rushed for 37 yards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Another player making a difference was Matthew Miller, who rushed for 134 yards and three scores on only 11 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Williamsville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.
Having lost for the first time this season, Olympia fell to 3-1. As for Williamsville, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Olympia has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 373 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Williamsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 161.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Olympia ended up a good deal behind Williamsville in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, losing 27-12. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
