Benet Academy hands Simeon second loss

Simeon (Chicago, Ill.) entered the week undefeated, virtually untested and ranked No. 3 nationally by MaxPreps.com.

But the Wolverines (23-2) will head into the postseason looking for answers following back-to-back losses in the span of four days, including a 58-54 setback to No. 14 Benet Academy (Lisle, Ill.) at the City-Suburban Showdown in Chicago.

The game was one of three Saturday night pitting nationally-ranked teams, and Wisconsin-bound 7-footer Frank Kaminsky shined in the spotlight for the Redwings (26-0) with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

According to the Chicago Tribune, over 8,000 fans witnessed the highly-anticipated contest at the UIC Pavilion.

Simeon was stunned Wednesday in the Chicago Public League semifinals by rival Whitney Young (Chicago), a team the Wolverines dominated 60-39 in late January.

Oak Hill blasts ACD at Presidential Hoopfest

No. 17 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) returned to its early-season form Saturday night at the Presidential Hoopfest in Upper Marlboro, Md., blowing out No. 15 Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville, Fla.) 103-76.

The Warriors (26-3), who were ranked No. 1 nationally in the preseason and held that spot until mid-January, raced to a 47-24 halftime lead and tacked on 30 points in the fourth quarter to close strong in the 27-point win.

Duke signee Quinn Cook led Oak Hill with a game-high 28 points.

Arlington Country Day (20-2) entered the contest with just one loss, a two-point setback to No. 11 Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) at the PrimeTime Shootout on Jan. 22.
