5A Region II District 14 recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lufkin, who took down 31st ranked A&M Consolidated, 71-68.
Jaylan Cheshire and Daniel Hulse provided fans with a highlight when they connected against the Panthers. The connection went for 82 yards, the longest such play in 5A Region II District 14 this season.
The Tigers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cheshire threw for 299 and three touchdowns and Hulse had 82 yards receiving. On the ground Xavier Jones chipped in 248 yards. Brandon Jackson helped A&M Consolidated's passing attack out by catching six balls for 63 yards.
A&M Consolidated's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Cheshire has thrown for 1195 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Josh Stewart has 15 catches for 253 yards. Jones leads the league in rushing with 716 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when The Woodlands takes on A&M Consolidated. The Highlanders are currently in second, while David Raffield's team is in fourth.
Lufkin moved up to 85 from 112 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 14. Todd Quick's team was able to make the jump by beating the Tigers 71-68.
