The Vero Beach Indians scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They put the hurt on Cocoa Beach with a sharp 79-55 victory. Winning may never get old, but Vero Beach sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Vero Beach's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jeremia Sanders, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sanders has scored all season. Emmanuel Guirand was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and five steals.
Despite the loss, Cocoa Beach still got an impressive performance from Jay Matthews, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds. Matthews hasn't dropped below 15 points for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Gavin Goodwin, who scored eight points.
Vero Beach is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Cocoa Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 12-9.
Vero Beach will look to defend their home court on Monday against Central at 7:00 p.m. Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Vero Beach in Florida (Central is ranked 98th, while Vero Beach is ranked 296th). As for Cocoa Beach, they will head out on the road to challenge Odyssey Charter School at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Odyssey Charter School is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
