The Perry County Central Commodores are taking a road trip to challenge the Belfry Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Perry County Central came into this matchup off a tough six-run loss on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Spencer County by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Commodores have suffered since May 20, 2024.
Perry County Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tate Watts, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Belfry waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Bobcats. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by eight runs or more this season.
Dante Davis and Eli Jones were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Davis pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jones tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Jones earned one RBI, two runs, and three stolen bases. That's the most runs Jones has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Varney, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bryce Hagy, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Belfry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Belfry pushed their record up to 13-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Perry County Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.
