Middletown and Warwick are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Middie Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Middletown has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Warwick will arrive with six straight wins.
On Thursday, Middletown came up short against Newburgh Free Academy and fell 7-3.
Alissandra Soto was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Diaz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Warwick got the win against Washingtonville on Thursday by a conclusive 13-1.
Olivia Martino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Etta Garofalo was incredible, firing off two home runs, three stolen bases, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Camryn Moore was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Warwick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Warwick's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Middletown, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Middletown suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Warwick when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Middie Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
