The Sunset Apollos can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. They really took it to Aloha for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-30 win at home. The victory was some much needed relief for Sunset as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Sunset found their leader in underclassman Ruby Foord, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and five steals. It was the first time this season that Foord scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rosa Martinez-Escobedo, who scored seven points along with five steals.
Sunset used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Aloha. Three players got more time on the court than they're used to: Dajah Paz (nine), Lauren Salmieri (14), and Adara Freiboth (15). The trio had averaged 4.17, 6.75, and 7.86 minutes respectively before Tuesday's game. Freiboth made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven points. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Sunset's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Aloha, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-19.
Sunset will face off against Mountainside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sunset focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday. As for Aloha, they will head out on the road to challenge Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Aloha will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oregon Rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while Westview is ranked 94th).
