Softball Recap: Northwood Wins Going Away Against Elizabeth

Northwood made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Elizabeth, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Gators blew past the Bulldogs 20-5 on Friday. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Kelsey Bennett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jalen Ambrose, who fired off seven RBI, four runs, and two triples while going 4-for-4. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Micheala Bolden was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs.

Northwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elizabeth only posted an OBP of .500.

The victory made it two in a row for Northwood and bumps their season record up to 13-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Elizabeth, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-13.

Looking ahead, Northwood will face off against Converse at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.57 runs per game on average), something the Gators will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Elizabeth, they are taking a road trip to square off against Plainview at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
