Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wendell). Everything went their way against the Garden Valley Wolverines on Saturday as they made off with a 21-2 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Deegan Prince and Beckett Yon made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Prince struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Yon pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Prince a new career-high. At bat, Prince got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base, while Yon got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Julian Ponce was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. AJ Ramirez was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Wendell's win bumped their record up to 7-12-1. As for Garden Valley, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Wendell will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wolverines: the pair will be back at it again later today.
