Basketball Recap: Knightdale's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Knightdale entered their match against Wakefield on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Knightdale Knights lost to the Wakefield Wolverines at home by a 68-49 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 67-44 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Knightdale still got an impressive performance from Ayomide Adewumi, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. Adewumi is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Kiyah Moore, who went 6 for 12 en route to 13 points and six boards.

Sydney Conti was nothing short of spectacular for Wakefield: she posted 27 points and six steals. Those 27 points gave Conti a new career-high. Kate Benson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Knightdale's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-3. As for Wakefield, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Knightdale will take on Wake Forest at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wakefield, they and Rolesville will face off at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Rolesville has won three straight at home, while Wakefield won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
