The Salpointe Catholic Lancers entered their tilt with the Walden Grove Red Wolves with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Salpointe Catholic walked away with a 58-50 win over Walden Grove on Tuesday. Given Salpointe Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Walden Grove is ranked 118th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Salpointe Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from M. J. Gedebou, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds. Joey Castillo was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 8 rebounds.
Several Red Wolves players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashton Romney, who scored 15 points. Romney scored a full 30% of Walden Grove's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Davareo Hill, who scored 10 points.
Salpointe Catholic's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Walden Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
Salpointe Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Rio Rico at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Walden Grove is on the road again on Thursday and play against Empire at 7:00 p.m. on November 30th. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Khari Gurley and Romney.
