Basketball Recap: Overhills Comes Up Short

Overhills scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 76-75 to the Freedom Christian Academy Patriots. Even though they lost, the Jaguars' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 52.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jermane Griffin, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Griffin is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zachiah Chalmers, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 15 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Freedom Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karsten Swinney, who posted 31 points along with six assists and five rebounds. James Ferguson was another key player, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 19 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Overhills and nudges their season record down to 1-4. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 points. As for Freedom Christian Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

Coming up, Overhills will square off against Holly Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Freedom Christian Academy, they have already played their next game, a 74-69 loss against Terry Sanford on the 29th.
