Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
For the season, Johnson averaged 23.9 points, 8 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 4.4 steals per game. She dropped a game-high 32 points in the title game to go along with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Johnson began her high school varsity career at St. Anne's-Belfield as an eighth-grader, helping the Saints go 93-10 in five seasons with the program.
A McDonald's All-American selection, Johnson will continue her career next year at Virginia. She was also the MaxPreps Virginia Player of the Year as a junior, averaging 21.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game in 2021-22.
