Basketball Recap: Westlake Snags Tenth Win in Last 12 Games

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Westlake ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 57-52 victory over the Lone Peak Knights. This was payback for the Thunder, who suffered a 59-50 loss the last time these two teams met.

Westlake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isley Sauvao, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. What's more, Sauvao also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Janiece Sikander was another key player, putting up 11 points along with six assists and three steals.

Westlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Lone Peak lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Zuri Nordstrom, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Woolston, who posted 16 points and five rebounds.

Westlake has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Lone Peak, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westlake will head out to challenge Skyridge at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. As for Lone Peak, they are taking a road trip to square off against Pleasant Grove at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Lone Peak is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
