Basketball Recap: Keene Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Vann Morrelli and Peter Robjent

Keene Central lost against Boquet Valley back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Keene Central Beavers took a 59-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Boquet Valley Griffins. While the Beavers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Griffins 15-9 in the first quarter.

Keene Central's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Peter Robjent, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points along with seven steals and three blocks, and Vann Morrelli, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Morrelli has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last eight times he's played. Hyler Isham was another key player, putting up four points and four steals.

Boquet Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braden Liberi led the charge by going 6 for 8 en route to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Those 15 points gave Liberi a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carson Leibeck, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points and five steals.

Keene Central's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. As for Boquet Valley, they moved to 8-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Keene Central will venture away from home to take on Chazy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Keene Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Chazy likes a good challenge. As for Boquet Valley, they will take on Lake Placid at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Boquet Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.
