Umatilla is 0-10 against South Lake since February of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. Umatilla will welcome South Lake at 7:00 p.m. Umatilla will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Umatilla barely beat Lake Minneola the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Umatilla put the hurt on Lake Minneola with a sharp 12-2 victory on Friday. The Bulldogs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 28th.
Chloe Rumford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Rumford was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February.
In other batting news, Aliyah Duncan was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Hunsicker, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Umatilla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, South Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Foundation Academy.
Ashlinn O'Brien and Chloe Stone stepped up to the plate in a big way. O'Brien scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Stone went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Bustos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Umatilla's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for South Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
