The West Iron County Wykons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a rough 73-38 loss at the hands of Escanaba. West Iron County lost against Escanaba in their previous head to head back in February of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-26 score last time.
Escanaba's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keira Maki led the charge by scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which Maki has scored at least 25% of Escanaba's points. Another player making a difference was Grayson Lamarche, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
West Iron County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Escanaba, their victory bumped their record up to 1-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Iron County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kingsford at 6:15 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Escanaba will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Gladstone at 7:15 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
