The Cozad Haymakers were the 61-55 winner over the St. Patrick's Irish when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Cozad received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 55-40 to St. Patrick's. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Cozad came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while St. Patrick's is ranked 44th).
Cozad's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Olliver Davis, who scored eight points, and Kellen Shoemaker who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Shoemaker, who scored eight points.
This is the second loss in a row for Cozad and nudges their season record down to 10-2. As for St. Patrick's, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cozad and Gothenburg will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Gothenburg will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. As for St. Patrick's, they will head out on the road to face off against Broken Bow on Thursday.
